Your 2015 Social Media Audit

How Important is a Social Media Audit?

So often I work with clients who have a social presence on just about every network but no ryhme or reason for these accounts.  When I ask who their target audience is, I get the same answer - "Anyone who needs our serivce". If this sounds like you or the business you're working for than you're going about it all wrong.  It's so important to understand who your target audience is and what your key marketing objectives are. Once you have developed an awareness of your audience members, then you need to think about what it is you want them to do.

Here are a few questions to ask yourself:

  • Have you aligned your goals with the goals of your company in general?
  • Are you measuring your KPI's?
  • Have you sufficiently defined your target audience?
  • Are your employees educated on your social strategy?
  • Are your profiles branded properly?
  • Are you using proper SEO tactics for your profiles?
  • Do you have a budget in place for social media advertising?

This short list of questions is just the beginning of how you complete a social media audit for your business.  To completely begin to understand how to create a real strategy behind your social media efforts conducting a true social media audit is key to your success.

Never Stop Learning

"Never Stop Learning",  my father has always said this to me, as far back as I can remember and he gladly drills it into my kids as well, "Never Stop Learning".  It's so true, there is so much out there to learn and gain new insight on you can never actually stop learning.  We all have our specialties and there are things that we are all pretty awesome at, but in the end we can never know it all.  I love my job, helping businesses succeed online is my specialty - whether it's building a kick a$$ website, kick-starting or managing their social media, I love to see a business succeed and that has always been my ultimate goal.

This year I decided to do a few things with my "rainy day cash", and that's get back to learning.  There are so many amazing people out there and we all have something to share and  these are the guys who ultimately got entrepreneurs like myself where we are today. Last week was the kickoff of Social Media Success Summit - and wow am I taking away some good candy at this event.

I highly suggest you check out all presenters from the Summit.

It's no surprise things are constantly changing in the online world, and if you're like me juggling multiple businesses and accounts its not always that easy to keep up with these changes and challenges so its up to us to get back to speed.  Some people may ask, "If you're the professional in this industry than shouldn't you know these things already?".  People like us aren't struggling to know, believe me we get it, but like every other professional there's always room for growth and there's always something new to learn.  It doesn't matter whether you're the one doing the research to figure it out or you're learning from another like minded individual who happened to figure it out a bit quicker than you. The thing to remember about taking courses like this one, these guys want you to be as successful as they are and with success its people like us who will make your business succeed even further. We're not competing with each other, there's way too much business out there to be doing that.  We all have something special we can offer, it's finding that niche and growing from there.

If you're not in a place to spend money on events such as this one, there are a ton of free resources, but what I've learned is when you're forced to let loose a little extra cash you end up taking the time to actually sit there and utilize what its being used for.  I have hundreds of downloads (that were free) that are sitting on my desktop and I'm always "getting to it over the weekend", well that hasn't happened yet.  But hey, if I've spent my rainy day cash - I'm gonna get my monies worth!  And so far, this is one of the best investments I've made in my "Never Stop Learning" course exploration.  Hmmm, I think I'm onto something here...

Till next time, Cheers!
